The first step is to decide on what type of health plan is best for you.

PPO Plans:
- usually more popular than HMO plans
- usually less expensive than HMO plans
- offer many plan and deductible options available
- provide you more flexibility than HMO plans
- no maternity coverage (see HMO plans on the right)
- allows you to see a specialist without a referral
- be sure to read the plan summary before applying

HMO Plans:
- usually more expensive than PPO Plans
- offers richer coverage
- usually underwriting is stricter if you have pre-existing conditions
- offers maternity coverage - if you are a family, call us for recommendations and options on how to save on premium dollars - usually it is best to split the husband (and existing children (if any) on to a PPO plan to save money
- maternity plans have a "12 month Waiting Period" for maternity. call us to review the subtle differences between the carriers.
- if you are already pregnant, then you and the father of the expectant child are ineligible for coverage until after the delivery. Existing children are still eligible for coverage
- some health insurance carriers require a referral from your primary physician before seeing a specialist - call us for details
